Overview
Mera Peak is located in the Khumbu region of Nepal at 6476m above sea level. The peak is rated as the highest trekking peak in Nepal.
Mera Peak is challenging but an excellent option for beginners for climbing at altitude with moderate experience and a good level of fitness physically and mentally.
Upon reaching the summit of Mera Peak, you will be treated to diverse landscapes with a variety of flora and fauna, local picturesque villages and their culture/lifestyle and plenty of snow-capped mountains!
The biggest highlight will be seeing the breathtaking panoramic views of 5 of the world’s highest mountains (above 8000m) – Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Cho You, Makalu and prominently… Everest!
Ther first ascent on Mera Peak was on May 20, 1953, by Col. Jimmy Roberts and Sen Tenzing. The region was first explored extensively by British expeditions in the early 50’s before and after the ascent of Everest. Members of those teams included Edmund Hilary, Eric Shipton and George Lowe.
